Volunteers

Why We Need You
Miller Hospice is a non-profit healthcare provider that relies on the financial support of federal programs such as Medicare. In order to be eligible for these grants, Miller Hospice is required to ensure that 5% of our work hours each month are volunteered to us.

Moreover, Miller Hospice relies on the compassion of our volunteers to help us provide human and caring experiences for all of our patients. It is thanks to our volunteers that Miller is able to earn it's reputation of being Tulsa’s most compassionate hospice.
What You Need to Volunteer for Us
As per HIPAA guidelines, all of our volunteers must pass a background check and be fingerprinted, provided by Miller Hospice. Every volunteer is also required to pass a Tuberculosis test. This involves a quick prick in the arm by one of our nurses with a follow up four to five days later.
Steps to Becoming a Volunteer
Fill out and submit the volunteer application to Keia Swall, our Volunteer Coordinator, at kswall@millerhospice.com.
Keia will use this information to make sure you are a good fit for Miller Hospice and to send in some basic infomation for your background check.

Keia will contact you asking for a copy of your photo ID and to schedule a time to come in to talk about volunteering and to get tested for Tuberculosis.

After your background check, you will come in to watch several HIPAA guideline and safety videos before you can begin volunteering for us.

What Volunteers Do
Each volunteer will have the opportunity to either help our patients directly at our partnered nursing homes or to work with our administrative staff.

Volunteers that choose to help directly will visit with patients. During these visits you might make a simple craft, read a chapter of a book, or simply sit and talk to them. It is most important that each of our patients and their families see that we are here for them.

Volunteers that decide to help out our administrative staff will help file, shred paper, make decorations, and other miscellaneous tasks around the office.
Junior Volunteers
We encourage volunteers of all ages and are ecstatic to receive the help of our Junior Volunteers. Those under the age of 18 are more than welcome to come and help out in any way they can!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Volunteer Coordinator Keia Swall at kswall@millerhospice.com or send us a message through our Contact Us page.
